Welcome to the Volume 11 Edition of the McCartney Newsletter.

The first days of summer have arrived. Although you wouldn't know it, because here in Playa del Rey it's more foggy than sunny. Anyway, we wanted to bring you up to speed on what's been happening and I hate to repeat myself, but a lot has happened! The weeks since our last edition literally flew by and now it's time to play catch up.
(Editorial note: this volume basically writes itself!)


Here are the most recent McCartney events (in no particular order.)

KISS - Ortsbo

It's 7:00 AM in the morning at the Beverly Hills Hotel and KISS fans from around the world are lining up online to get ready to chat to their favorite stars, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons from KISS. Ruth decided to wear her Bindaa to the event, which was kindly provided by the ladies from More on this amazing new service in the McCartney Business section. The KISS event was packed.

During the live broadcast, questions for Paul and Gene came in from around the globe. Germany, Norway, Argentina, The Philippines, Australia and Japan. And best of all, everyone participating would see Gene's and Paul's answers in their native tongue, meaning: someone in Norway asked the question in Norwegian and Paul and Gene would see it in real time in English, answer in English and our Norwegian fan would see it in his native language. PLUS everyone else logged on saw it in THEIR languages, Korean, Swahili, French etc.

Pretty awesome technology, thanks to Ortsbo.

JP Selects - Mrs. Angie McCartney's Teas

A match made in heaven! And she's his drinking buddy, too!

You've got to give it to her, at the tender age of nearly 82; Angie is embarking on her dream of running her own company. Celebrating tea ceremonies with the rich and not so rich and famous, enjoying a good old chinwag with friends and family, giving worldly advice to the younguns and being the financial rock behind McCartney Multimedia.

Being born in the first great depression, she says that the current US financial crisis is a "doozy" and there's really nothing to be worried about, because: "All You Need is Tea!"

At a recent ceremony in Malibu, the beautiful home of Eloise and John Paul DeJoria, Angie presented here line of gourmet teas to the founder of Paul Mitchell hair care with great success.

As it is custom, the ceremony was held around 5 PM that day and all the participants enjoyed a nice cup of tea, whilst listening to Angie's stories of wisdom and life. Then, John Paul brought out the Gran Patron Platinum. I don't quite seem to remember much after that, but I have a suspicion that John Paul and Angie seemed to be in love with each other!

Thanks to Frank for helping out with the ceremony and Anna Griffin of CoCoEco Magazine, we are proud to say that Angie has made it to the JP Selects website not only as an entrepreneur but also as an eco-friendly product with a very low carbon footprint that can be consumed without hurting the rain forests.

Clarence Clemons, Springsteen’s Soulful Sideman, Dies at 69

Clarence Clemons, the saxophonist in Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, whose jovial onstage manner, soul-rooted style and brotherly relationship with Mr. Springsteen made him one of rock’s most beloved sidemen, died on Saturday at a hospital in Palm Beach, Fla. He was 69.
Throughout his career, Mr. Clemons shared the stage with other notables, including former President Clinton.
The cause was complications of a stroke he suffered last Sunday at his home in Singer Island, Fla., a spokeswoman for Mr. Springsteen said.
In a statement released Saturday night, Mr. Springsteen called Mr. Clemons “my great friend, my partner.”
“With Clarence at my side, my band and I were able to tell a story far deeper than those simply contained in our music,” he added. “His life, his memory and his love will live on in that story and in our band.”  
From the beginnings of the E Street Band in 1972, Mr. Clemons played a central part in Mr. Springsteen’s music, complementing the group’s electric guitar and driving rhythms in songs like “Born to Run” and “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out” with muscular, melodic saxophone hooks that echoed doo-wop, soul and early rock ’n’ roll.

Recipe of The Month

Blood Orange and Fennel Salad
The aniseed / licorice flavor of both fennel and blood oranges makes an interesting combination. You can also add pine nuts or cashews for an extra crunch.


2 medium-sized fennel bulbs
1tbsp blood orange juice
2tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
?tsp sea salt
?tsp freshly ground black pepper
2 blood oranges 
1 small red onion
Olives (if desired) or black seedless grapes
Pine nuts or toasted cashews

Trim the base and tops of the fennel and throw away. 
Place the blood orange juice, olive oil, salt and pepper in a bowl or blender and mix.
Slice across the fennel bulb very finely, almost shaving it, or if you have a mandoline slicer, set it to the thinnest measurement and MIND YOUR FINGERS... then coat the sliced fennel in the dressing.

Trim off the ends of each orange and discard. Using a sharp knife, cut off the peel and pith, then slice the orange finely crosswise. 
Slice the onions to the same thickness as the fennel.
Rinse the olives and/or grapes and drain.

Arrange the oranges on a large platter, add the fennel, onions, olives/grapes and pine nuts/cashews.

Also, if you have any green, feathery fennel fronds left, cut them up over the top of the salad for a fresh finish.
Goes great with grilled chicken or fish, or you could even add grilled shrimp to the salad to make it a main course.

"It has been a long time coming"

When Martin Nethercutt started out writing the original Geist concept, one thing was pretty clear from the beginning: The project needed a kick-ass guitar player to fill in not only the solo parts but also help out with melodies and chorus lines. When Martin met Marino De Silva in 2005, a deep musical friendship developed, all of sudden there was a Jimmy Page to his Robert Plant. Coming from the same European background, both shared common musical experiences, playing in bands, recording in studios in Germany and in England. The album is now available on iTunes.
