Dear {{firstname}},

Welcome to the Volume 17 edition of the McCartney Newsletter.

This edition features a couple of new McCartney Multimedia product offerings, as well star-studded events and news. It's been a busy 6 weeks since our last communication, so let's get right to it.

BritWeek 2012

Ruth, Martin, Angie and cousin Bruce attended BritWeek, the annual festival showcasing British business and influence in California.

This year's opening Gala was held at the amazing Hancock Park home of "Everybody Loves Raymond's" Patricia Heaton and her husband, British actor and Juilliard graduate Richard Hunt. Thank you both so much for your hospitality! A grand time was had by all including Co-founder Nigel Lythgoe of So You Think You Can Dance and American Idol, Jeri Ryan, Fred Willard, Jackie Collins, The Reverend Jessie Jackson and a host of fun folks from across the pond.

In this, the year of the 60th Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen, it was a fab time to be a Brit abroad.

About BritWeek

"The eyes of the world focused on California this spring, marking our sixth anniversary!
BritWeek 2012 has been bigger and better than ever. Launched in 2007 with a few select events, BritWeek quickly expanded in scope to become a springtime fixture on the Los Angeles calendar, and within two seasons evolved into a landmark festival celebrated around the state.
Each year, thousands of people attended a myriad of arts, entertainment, cultural, business, social and charity events in and around Los Angeles, Orange County and San Francisco. In 2011, with nearly 350,000,000 broadcast, trade, print and online media impressions internationally (including a special segment on American Idol), BritWeek has truly gone global!

THE celebration of British excellence in California, BritWeek (a non-profit organization) operates with cooperation from US and UK government entities, leading businesses and local organizations of all sizes to produce a stellar line-up of events for every budget and inclination. The program features art & design, film & television, music, theatre, literature, science & technology, fashion, retail, cuisine, pro sports, vintage cars, business innovation awards, star-studded red carpet receptions and charity galas, museum exhibitions…and the list expands each year!"

Slash releases new Album in Mativision 360

Slash launches Mativision app in iTunes® store

Let's talk Slash. Let's talk legend. As in Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame legend. Team Slash turned to our client Mativision to come into the studio and create an "I was there" experience both in 360 video and also now in a world's first App for iPhone and iPad! You can literally turn your iPad around and see inside the secret Hollywood studio from everyone's angle... even the control room. Stand alongside Myles Kennedy. Watch producer Eric Valentine in the control room. Be a digital fly on the wall. We just wish that Mativision had existed back in the Abbey Road days.... can you even "imagine"?

It's an awesome piece of work, and at McCartney Multimedia,Inc. we're very proud of being a part of bringing this deal together!

It's good to know that true Rock'n Roll still exists.
With Apocalyptic Love, Slash continues to surprise. This album is a true gem.
SLASH 360 - The Apocalyptic Love Sessions featuring Slash, Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators - Mativision

"It's great to finally hear an album that's true to its roots. From the songs, to the performances, to the actual mix, this album has history written all over it. This album is the real deal. It's not over produced and effected like today's rock flavor of the week, but it's crafted from the heart, and you can hear that in the subtleties and nuances of the record." - Martin Nethercutt, iTunes Store Comment.

The bottom line: It's a great buy!"
Again, we would like to thank the team @Mativision for their unbelievable work in creating this great App! A special thank you goes out to: Antonis Karydis, Luke Kazanis, Marios Rush, Eric Valentine, Slash, Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, and last but not least Todd Waks, Jeff V, the crew and management for Slash and Myles Kennedy. It was truly great working with you guys!

Non-Profit News

Angie is pictured here at the ABC's (Associates for Breast and Prostate Cancer) Mother's Day Luncheon, benefiting the John Wayne Cancer Institute, and organized by the iconic event producer Marsha Grant. We sat with Patrick and Ethan Wayne, sons of The Duke himself and learned all about the amazing strides that are being made in new technologies and medicines for this devastating disease.

It was held at the Four Seasons, Beverly Hills. The honorees were Kris Jenner (Kardashian), Guiliana Rancic and NFL contributor and news broadcaster Gillian Barberie-Reynolds.

Learn how you can help the John Wayne Cancer Foundation.

The following weekend saw Ruth attend a VERY moving event for the Future Fund at the incredible home of Sherry Lansing - the first female CEO of a major motion picture studio - Paramount Pictures.

21 years ago, under the umbrella of Big Brothers Big Sisters, broadcaster Sarah Purcell presented Sherry with an idea to fund scholarships for young girls from troubled backgrounds, tough neighborhoods and broken homes.

They have been able to fund hundreds of educational grants and scholarships through the years with their hard work, dedication, generosity, Rolodexes and more than a little help from a team of passionate volunteers. Congratulations to all!

Jonas visits L.A.

Canadian Rock Superstar Jonas was in town for a week gathering songs and material for his upcoming album. In true songwriter fashion we spent a few evenings putting riffs, chords and melodies together, which will eventually lead to a new song. "When you write by yourself you know your environment, the world you live in musically. When you write with someone as talented as Jonas you've got to not only bring your A-Game, you also have to function as two writers approaching unknown musical territory." - Martin Nethercutt
"In true wife fashion, I spent those evenings in the kitchen making "musician food" which means you have to do everything silently inclduing opening the 'fridge!" - Ruth McCartney

Rock Of Ages

"Having just seen the movie, I think the best way to describe it is if you like a great soundtrack and don't mind a Broadway play storyline, and especially if you were born in the 60's than this one is for you. We understand it has been dissed by the critics but we found it very amusing, Cruise and Baldwin were hilarious!" - Martin

"I Love Rock'n Roll" by co-writer Jake Hooker is featured in the movie.

Set in 1987 Los Angeles, Drew and Sherrie are two young people chasing their dreams in the big city. When they meet, it's love at first sight, though their romance will face a series of challenges.

Ivan G. Goldman's latest novel Isaac: A Modern Fable came out in 2012 from Permanent Press. For more information please visit:

by Ivan G. Goldman

Powell's Books
Ivan gives an overview of the book:

A lively, inventive tale of Isaac that follows him beyond Genesis into the 21st century.
After being spared from Abraham's blade, he's been granted eternal youth and wanders the earth as a soldier of fortune. Turning up at a coffee shop in Los Angeles, he falls in love with Ruth Canby, a brilliant, breezy academic with a troubled past.
Isaac suspects he was forgotten, "a crumb dropped unnoticed in a kitchen crevice." Perhaps whatever saved him is long gone, leaving him "a puppet without a puppet master, like one of those Japanese soldiers stranded on an island after World War II."
Isaac and Ruth must ultimately confront a sinister, enigmatic phantom that's stalked him for forty centuries. The story makes stops that include the Spanish Inquisition, a luxury box at the Super Bowl, and the infamous cells of the Tombs of New York City. Along the way it takes stock of time and chance, good and evil, faith, forgiveness, God, Satan, and the power of everlasting love.
New York Times best-selling author Ivan Goldman's work has appeared in The Nation, Rolling Stone, Columbia Journalism Review, Utne Reader, The Ring, The New York Times, and The Washington Post. Isaac: A Modern Fable is his fourth novel. He and his wife live in Southern California.

What’s In A Name? Everything When Using and Protecting Your Business’s

Most Important Asset
By Paul I. Menes, Esq.
Menes P.C.

The importance of branding your goods or services and protecting those brands can’t be understated. Brands or Marks (Trademarks for goods and Service Marks for services) are a company’s most important asset and can generate consistent and substantial revenues.

All companies have and own Marks. Many companies don’t know this, let alone how valuable Marks are and that Marks need to be available for their use as brands and then protected to be effectively monetized. One can also “reserve” a Mark, even if the goods or services haven’t yet been used in commerce.

What’s A Mark?

Basically, a Mark is a monopoly on a word, phrase, symbol, sound, moving image, name, fragrance, color or combination of these used to designate and identify the source and origin of products or services. It can’t be used by competitors for similar goods and services. Some famous examples of Marks are Xerox® for photocopy machines and the color pink for building insulation.

Why Is It So Valuable?

Without a Mark to serve as a source identifier, how do your customers or clients know who you are, what you do, what you stand for and that they want your products or services instead of your competitors’? Imagine selling a Coke® if it couldn’t be identified as a “Coke.” Without the “Coke” brand, it’s just another cola-flavored soft drink. People buy a Coke because they want a Coke. They have a certain expectation of what a Coke is, what drinking it means and they want to participate in the experience.

Recipe of The Month

Ruth's German Schnitzel

Translation of the name: 'Wiener' this word comes from the word 'Wien', which is the Austrian city called Vienna. 'Schnitzel' means basically meat in a crust. So you see it has nothing to do with hot dogs or "Wieners" it is a Schnitzel from Vienna! Eating it fresh is also important, this is not a dinner which gets better the next day. Yep. Every day's a school day!

• 4 veal cutlets (traditional) pounded to 1/4 inch thickness (about 5 oz. each) (you may use chicken or pork, as well)
• 1/4 c. flour (all purpose or brown rice)
• 1/4 tsp. salt
• 1/2 c. bread crumbs
• 2 eggs
• Oil or lard for frying (lard is traditional)

To pound meat thin you may want to place the cutlet between sheets of plastic wrap for easier washing up. Use a heavy, flat-surface pan to pound if you don’t have a meat mallet.

Pound the meat evenly to 1/4 inch thickness for best results.

Do not press the bread crumbs into the meat. The crust should not adhere completely, but form a loose shell around the schnitzel.

Make sure the breaded meat “swims” in fat. Contrary to instinct, the breading will take on less oil than if the meat is sticking to the pan. Also, the breadcrumb topping has a chance to puff up a little, and your clean up is easier! Wiener Schnitzel in pan.

"Dry, Wet, Dry" Method:

Set up 3 shallow dishes. Place the flour and 1/2 teaspoon salt in one and breadcrumbs in another. Beat eggs well and place in the third dish.
Heat at least 1/4 inch of oil in the pan to 350°F.
Working one at a time, dredge cutlets first in flour until the surface is completely dry. Dip in egg to coat, allow the excess to drip off for a few seconds and then roll quickly in the breadcrumbs until coated. Do not press breadcrumbs into the meat. Place meat immediately in the pan with the hot oil. Do not crowd the pan. Cook the schnitzel in batches, if necessary.
Fry the schnitzel for 3-4 minutes on one side. You may want to swish them around a little with your fork to make sure they are not sticking to the pan. Turn them over once and fry until both sides are golden brown. Remove from pan, allow the oil to drain off, place on a plate with lemon slices and potato salad or green salad and serve.

Angie's One Liners

"The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But it's sure still on the list."

"Going to church doesn't make you religious any more than standing in a garage makes you a car."

"Children - you spend the first 2 years of their lives teaching them to walk and talk, and the next 16 telling them to shut up and sit down."

"To steal from one person is called plagiarism. To steal from many is called research."
