A very special night at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood

BAFTA and American Cinematheque
"Across The Universe" written by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais @
the famed Egyptian Theater on Hollywood Blvd.

To commemorate the landing of the Fabs at JFK 50 years earlier, this evening was a must for Beatle fans and the screening was followed by a Q&A with BAFTA LA Director Sandro Monetti, Angie & Ruth, and members of the audience. The girls were decked out in fabulous red carpet jewels courtesy of Jay Parry and the Royal Chain Group. And yes, they gave them back.

"The BAFTA LA Special Events Committee exists to celebrate the finest British entertainment in America and this event, which we co-hosted with our friends at the American Cinematheque, provided a wonderful night's entertainment for all and a fabulous salute to The Beatles on the 50th anniversary of their first US TV appearance. Special guests Angie McCartney and Ruth McCartney played a huge part in the evening's success thanks to their insightful and hugely entertaining stories."

~ Sandro Monetti, BAFTA LA Board of Directors, Co-Chair of Special Events and the evening's host and Q&A moderator.

GEIST - Book Of Shadows

Martin has been working hard on the second album of his trilogy "Geist - Book of Shadows"
Since the inception of "GEIST", Martin has believed that to express the depth of his musical talents, one genre of music never seemed to fit the varieties of his styles of music. So, since one could easily characterize his debut record "GEIST Book Of Mirrors" as more of a pop/rock album, the second installment of the triology is much darker and more dramatic in nature.

93,321 tracks later, the concept for the Book Of Shadows is taking shape. Over half of the album is written musically, and new tracks and melodies are forming constantly.
The human condition, the concept of self-reflection (mirrors), the fall into the Abyss of the human psyche (shadows), to the re-awakening of the everlasting spirit (light) is thematic subject of the lyrics to which Ruth McCartney is always lending a helping hand to polish the songs for primetime.
Eventually, the third and last record is the Book Of Light which will mainly feature acoustic tracks.
The image above represents an early cover idea for the album.

"On Feb 11, I wrote the annual Red Dress Awards, held at Jazz at Lincoln Center. It's NYC's biggest gala designed to raise awareness of Heart Disease in Women. Our sensational host was Rita Wilson who also sang two beautiful original songs. Other entertainment was the amazing Sara Bareilles (fresh from her performance at the Grammys with Carole King) and Judith Hill from 20 FEET FROM STARDOM.

The evening's first honoree was President Bill Clinton, who spoke with his characteristic intelligence, humor and charm about his personal history with heart disease, how he's changed his life post-surgery, suggestions on heart health, healthier eating and how he now weighs - in his words - "what I weighed when [he] was 13 years old." He also greeted Rita's husband, Tom Hanks, sitting front row center, saying how good it was to have Captain Phillips in the house. After he spoke, the room stood and cheered for at least 3 minutes.

After his presentation he hung around backstage and spoke to all of the crew. I was wearing two Clinton/Gore buttons from the '92 election and when he saw them, his face broke out into a big smile. He took my hands and said, "I can't believe you still have those." When he left he stopped again at my computer and told me, "You can't imagine how much it means to me that you kept and wore those old campaign buttons."

I replied, "SIr, I had the privilege of voting for you twice. I look forward to doing the same for your wife."

Meeting the 42nd President of the United States was truly a thrill. "

Brian Epstein Statue Campaign
info from
"So, more exciting news about the campaign to erect a statue in Liverpool to Brian Epstein - we are thrilled that the world renowned Parr Street Studios have kindly agreed to let us record the single there and as we speak, Bob and Billy Kingsley are preparing to lay down the backing tracks.
Some of the biggest names in show biz have recorded at Parr St Studios,  Atomic Kitten, Beautiful South, Barry Manilow, China Crisis, Christians, & Coldplay to name but a few !!!!

We have had further confirmation from the Lord Mayor Gary Millar (@garymillar) of his involvement and his commitment to the project! Tom Murphy who has been responsible for some of the most iconic artwork within the city, is confirmed as the sculptor, and is joining us for the recording of the single.

Andy McCluskey formerly of Orchestral Manouevres in the Dark has been busy contacting his extensive group of friends and has invited Heidi Range, Atomic Kitten, China Crisis and Ian McCulloch to be part of this historic event. Bob has also been busily working his way through his Rolodex and is e-mailing the great talents from Liverpool ’s musical and theatrical heritage. Ian Prowse, Ian McNabb & Tom Murphy have all agreed to join us on the song when we record it in March.

Sending digital backgrounds across the oceans will be scousers Angie & Ruth McCartney.

Speaking of Andy McCluskey and OMD, he is featured in the witty, zany Lennon-esque memoir of his muse Julia Kneale, an old school friend of Ruth's. Moods, Memories and Other Manoeuvres is a must for any baby boomer fan of OMD, the Id and the like.

Restaurant of the Month

Wharo - Marina Del Rey

Tableside BBQ, great fresh meat and veggies and an overall unique dining experience drives us back there every time. It is one of our favorite restaurants on the west side.

Wharo refers to an old charcoal stone-pot, which brought together families and friends. We want to continue this symbolism at Wharo so families can sit around to eat and share memories.
Wharo was founded in 2004 with the passion and inspiration to introduce quality and health conscious-friendly Korean food on the Westside of Los Angeles. The owner, Mijin Namgoong, had noticed that her non-Korean friends and colleagues loved Korean food but had no location to embrace it on the Westside. Mijin took that idea and decided to open a Korean restaurant that would complement the active and health conscious community of the Westside.

Recipe of The Month

Ruth's Beatles-Themed Recipes

With all the 50th anniversary hoo-hah, and me being a foodie / wanna be gourmet - I have started work on a Fab Four Flavoured cookbook - all will be revealed soon... in the meantime, with a nod to Sir - I've decided this month to feature a long and winding noodle dish that can be prepared as vegan, vegetarian or just add pancetta for the carnivores.

Great served with an Emanuel Tres Wines' Tinto Roberto - check out their varietals here... (website by McCartney Multimedia - ahem;)

Long and Winding Pasta ala Funghi
Veggie (or Vegan) Mushroom Feast

This recipe is impressive but quick to prepare, so it's great for family dinners and weeknight meals alike. Feel free to add other vegetables to your sauce, such as fresh spinach or steamed broccoli.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes
Yield: About 4 servings

• 1 lb. long noodle pasta, such as angel hair or linguini
• 1/4 cup olive oil spread margarine, divided
• 2 large cloves garlic, minced
• 16 ounces crimini mushrooms, halved

• 1 T. all-purpose flour
• 1 cup plain soy or almond milk
• 1/4 cup dairy-free sour cream or silken tofu
• 1/4 t. sea salt, plus more to taste
• 1/2 cup frozen peas
• Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil. Add pasta and cook until al dente according to the manufacturer's instructions. Drain the pasta and set aside.
2. In a large sauté pan, heat 2 T. of the olive oil spread/margarine over medium-high heat. Add the garlic and mushrooms and cook until the mushrooms are fragrant and soft, about 4 minutes. Transfer the mushrooms and garlic to a large bowl and set aside.
3. In the same sauté pan over medium-high heat, heat the remaining 2 T. margarine and the flour, whisking constantly to combine and avoid burning for about 45 seconds to 1 minute. Continuing to stir constantly, gradually add the soy/almond milk until the mixture is smooth. Add the dairy-free sour cream or tofu, salt, and pepper, and stir/whisk until well combined. Add the mushrooms and garlic and frozen peas to the sauce, and cook for about 2 minutes more, or until the peas are thawed..
4. Remove the pan from heat. Add the pasta to the sauce and toss to coat the noodles. Portion the pasta onto individual plates and add freshly ground pepper to taste. Drizzle some extra virgin olive oil and serve immediately.
